Parkview Green Art is honoured to present the exhibition Parallel Convergences. The show displays 16 works spanning paintings, sculptures and installations from four artists: Huang Lan, Huang Miaoxun, Wu Yishan, Yuan Song.

Michel Foucault in his work The Order of Things: An Archaeology of the Human Sciences introduces the theory of Renaissance’s knowledge, according to which the search for meaning is based on unveiling similitudes among things. Breaking away from the classic episteme focused on the representation of things and from the modern system of thinking based on history, the theory of similitudes is based on the idea that the world’s order and the exchange method among things derive from the profound similarities among things: this knowledge system is based on non-conventional and natural connections. Within the framework of the theory of similitudes, Foucault introduces four kinds of similitudes: convenience (a complex set of interconnected relationships), emulation (a series of entities and projections which are impossible to distinguish), analogy (a point in the space where things converge), sympathy (an unrestrained tendency to assimilation and movement).

The exhibition displays the artistic praxis and language of four artists engaged in presenting to the viewers topics related to these four similitudes. Yuan Song represents the notion of convenience, Huang Miaoxun addresses the emulation, Wu Yishan describes the analogy and Huang Lan reflects upon the concept of sympathy. The artworks reflect the representations of things, while the notion of similitude, following a strict order, exists below the level of representation. The concept of similitude is difficult to define, to describe and to conceive. The exhibition Parallel Convergences tries to address the notion of similitude, while seeking new forms of inspiration by exploring apparently chaotic channels and unexpected connections among things.  The show will open on the 26th of June and will run until the 11th of August.
