Parkview Green Art is honored to present the exhibition Mysterious Voyage with works from Lv Zhe, Lu Lin, and Zhu Xinyu. They address and interpret the concept of journey and traveling, both literally and metaphorically, through a wide range of semantic and visual representations.

From the epic trip of Ulysses in the Odyssey to the adventures depicted in Journey to the West, the theme of voyage has been extensively addressed in the literature, art, and music, demonstrating the innate predisposition of human beings to discover new places. However, some journeys do not involve geographic travel; on the contrary, they refer to mental, visual, and emotional trips carried out through fantasy, creativity, imagination, and emotions.

In Lv Zhe’s painting, the logical relationship between objects and the surrounding environment is often undermined; unrelated elements are juxtaposed with an unusual iconography, giving viewers the sense of stepping into a dream and producing a sense of dislocation in time and space. From a visual point of view, the usage of chiaroscuro and the unrealistic shadows highlight the surreal character of the composition, echoing the historical tradition of metaphysical painting.

Lu Lin’s intense and strong chromatic combination bestows his paintings with dynamism and vitality while also conveying a sense of melancholy and nostalgia. His gestural brushstrokes provide the viewers with an intense emotional and visual experience, echoing the New-Expressionism tradition.

Zhu Xinyu’s artistic practice is characterized by a complex system of references to art history and traditional painting techniques. With brushstrokes reflecting Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pointillism, Zhu Xinyu elaborates a complex and poetic artistic language that provides the viewers with the feeling of experiencing a journey in a mythical past.

The artists taking part in this project have embarked on a journey whose final destination might, in fact, be a non-place, a utopia, a simple territory of desire – and therefore beyond reach. Viewers are taken through a visual and emotional journey, where personal memories, individual emotions, collective feelings, and micro-narratives are reactivated through a complex system of visual metaphors, references, and symbols.
