It’s like a riddleand the answer to the riddle is in buds, branches and trunks of lush forests.Deng Shiru, a famous Chinese calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, said that “Seewhite as black and a wonderful world appears”. The blank space is as importantas the theme of the painting. As a part of layout and configuration of theartwork, the blank space not only enhances a sense of space but also bring outthe theme. The subtle and delicate relation between solids and voids showscharacteristic and aesthetics of Asian culture. The artwork particularlyfocuses on the image layout and a sense of rhythm. A plurality of symbols isused to stimulate the audience to imagine and explore in a variety of ways.Some symbols are precisely arranged at the center of the painting while othersare hidden in the background. The audience gradually figures out a fantasticstory the artist would like to tell by using clues hidden in the artwork.

 

Compared with the artwork of illusory scene in soloexhibition 2013, the artwork Moon’s flower in solo exhibition 2015 is displayedin a silent and restrained form. The whole new creation breaks out of amonotone of ink wash paintings at early stage. A new series of artworks havedifferent atmosphere with various colors, showing tension and affectionspecific to the colors. In the artwork, peonies, canaries, kittens, people, andbutterflies having a conversation with each other quietly, leading the audienceto experience and explore new life in each symbol. A netted leaf vein patternis formed by a plurality of white lines. The building of the space is convertedinto a metaphor of the individual. The view of the artwork is changed from aperspective front view to a top view of a wide field of the whole forest. Theartwork is deconstructed and clarified to get its internal form. The audience’smind moves along with the straight or crooked branches to see beautiful sceneryon the way. The artist makes a review of his artworks, reflects on the past andlooks forward to the the future. The artwork carries a foreshadowing to arousethe audience emotionally.
