Art 798 is pleased to declare that Apocalypse of Eschatology: Quintuple
Sculpture Exhibition will open at 16:00 on Apr. 6, 2019, with Emerson Wang as
the Curator.
This is an age
of anxiety, where the concurrent revolutions of information and biotechnology
constantly reshape the basic conditions of human existence and pose more
formidable challenges than ever. The expansion effect of online media
determines what comes into our eyes and life. There is no clear line between
the free will of human beings and the "truth" as we understand. The
world is changing constantly, as with the value, lifestyle and world view as
understood by human beings. In the face of future, the only thing we believe is
"change."
Curated by Emerson Wang, a Taiwanese art critic and curator, the Apocalypse of Eschatology: Quintuple Sculpture Exhibition invited five Chinese contemporary sculptors with unique styles and creative techniques, through the arrangement of their works, to shed light from their perspective on the anxious 21st century that seems like the eschatological apocalypse. The concepts that used to be universally applicable became contradictory as the rise of issues of nuclear weapons, production, immigration, and environmental protection. Lu Zhengyuan challenges the fixed identity and style of art as if he is pursing the human faith and soul. This time he adopts new technologies and encourages participation of the audience to propose the complex yet obscure interpersonal relationship; Zheng Lu, an artist with typical oriental humanistic thought, is good at expressing in-depth thoughts with the three-dimensional presentation of calligraphy and paintings. In the days to come, he will do it just the other way around by having the 3D object observed from a two-dimension perspective, highlighting diversity by changing the original characteristics of the material; Xia Hang deals with the relationship between people and machineries in the future era of technology. Metallic luster and sharp-cut surface set the tone of the sculpture, representing the madness of the human world; Yang Lan explores the essence of life existence through religious images, and nothingness and doubt become inalienable from existence; Ren Zhe holds that the world needs a new power from people before the world can be changed. Mysterious fables appear in these works, envisaging new possibilities of life. Despite that the five sculptors have their own propositions to their works, they all boil down to one purpose, which is to explore a situation, with which to deconstruct, reorganize or reshape people’s mind and to present it in tangible works.

way of appreciating exhibitions, Parkview Green Art Gallery and curator
Emerson Wang made huge adjustments in the design of the exhibition
hall, turning the gallery into a scene like the one in Marvel movies so that
the audience would find themselves in a fictional yet real world that looks
like apocalypse. They are no longer simply observers but participants of all
that take place there. The curator and the artists have proposed their
questioning to the trend of times and present the current situations of life
more clearly to us with the exhibition. Each character is given special
identities and tasks, looking for answers and redemption in the chaos of the
world.
The exhibition will last until May.12, 2019.
